"Talking of Design" since 2006

‘I’ve got ants in my pants and I need to dance (etc.)’

... and so here it is – my all new blog powered by txp.
Blogger was fantastic for what I needed at the time, and the blogger site itself was superbly designed – indeed, I can highly recommend it as a quick start to the world of blogging.

But it was time for me to move on me thinks …

First off, I just wanna say thanks to a few people who have helped me a truck-load with getting this sorted:

The blogging legend that is John Oxton for all his help and advice, along with his right hand man (oo-err, not like that) Graham Bancroft who has been a star in getting it set up and also fixing things after I’d ‘gone in’ after with a metaphorical hammer! Steve Dickinson from TXP Plugins has been unbelievably helpful and full of enthusiasm for my ‘cause’. I will be putting into place some of his txp ideas some time soon I hope.

So, give yourselves several pats on the back from me – it is very much appreciated!

OK. What’s new. Well the site certainly isn’t perfect yet – my understanding of txp is still limited, but I’m hoping to slicken things up as quickly as possible. Oh, and excuse my current flickr pics at the mo – it looks like I’m being vain when really I don’t have any other digital pics on my machine at present – heh! I am also adding outbound links as I’m going – as we all do I guess.

One feature I am hoping to incorporate soon is that of having character illustrations produced for invited regular readers. These will only be shown when they, themselves, post a comment – a bit like when I currently post a reply myself (see below). What do people think of this idea? I’ve spoken through the concept with some txp gurus and it seems very feasible indeed from the feedback I was given …

Anyways, I hope folk like the site. I’m going to be adding loads more illustration samples and design samples to my portfolio real soon, so have a look next time you happen to find yourself here. As well as some groov-sum web design jobbies and stuff.

I’ve also just recently returned from @media in London – which was great – and I’ve got some comments to air about it all which I will do soon …

Crikey – got loads more I could say, but look at the time! I’m spent …

COMMENTSCOMMENTS

  1. As explained above, this is how my replies will look …

  2. ... while other replies will look like this.

  3. Late night I’m guessing :)

Great design, love the idea for custom characters for your regular readers, also like the text size buttons to the right. I’m a big fan of your work so look fwd to seeing your new stuff soon.

Very nice design!! I like your illustrations, they are really well done.
Linked you up on TXP Magazine.

  4. I love it. Nice idea about the illustrations as well, I think that would add a real nice touch to the site. Look forward to seeing your new posts and additions to the site in the future. Nice one.

  5. Kev Just noticed that on some pages there is a white block across the page, which I believe is the list class .plus-nav. This mainly appears when viewing the animations, see the following link…

    Screen Shoot
(the red border is the outline from the dev tool ext for Fx)

  6. Cripes! I’ll have to look into that issue.
@Michael: Cheers mate. I've fixed that now - sort of. Seemed that 'swfobject' plus 'fixed position element', equals 'weird white bar across screen' - in this case anyhow. I've fixed it with 'position: absolute;' for the time being - no great shakes as there isn't much scrolling on these pages. I tried messing with the z-index but no joy ...

@everyone thus far: Cheers for the positive feedback …

  7. I just want to add that given I am a right handed I would never hire a right hand man to fulfill the promise of your brackets (ooo…errr) but rather a left hand [wo]man… ayeee thank you.

  8. “Ladels and Gentle-Ben, Mr John Oxton …” [Raptuous applause]

He’s here all week (actually, he’s not, he’s in ‘New Yoik’, but yu know what I mean)
